Can you pray?

"Can you pray?" was the first words spoken by the family member as we stood just a short distance from her loved one that was in the midst of a "Code" at a hospital. I assured her that we could and immediately began praying.

In the Gospel of Luke 7:12 we read …"He went out into the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God". On this occasion Jesus chose to pray during a time of silence when the crowd would not disturb Him. He also selected a place where He could be still and quiet.

It is nice to step away mentally, and even physically, into a quite place and commune with God in prayer. However, it is not always possible to be quiet or even stand still in the busy world. During those times it is important to remember that the Loving and Caring God to whom we pray is able to hear our words and know our hearts. James 4:8(a) states, "Come near to God and He will come near to you." Regardless of the surroundings God is near and always ready to listen!
